Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging (FLIM) is revolutionizing biomedical imaging by offering contrast mechanisms independent of signal intensity. To meet the growing need for standardized FLIM calibration tools, BiopixS presents the first High Resolution Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging (FLIM) Test Targets — engineered to support traceable, quantitative FLIM measurements across a wide range of imaging systems.
These test targets integrate our high-resolution USAF patterns (Groups 0–8 or 2–8) with fluorescent dyes (BPXS1LT, BPXS3LT, BPXS4LT, BPXS5LT) for which lifetime values have been carefully measured and validated using TCSPC systems. Optimized for confocal, wide-field, and point-scan FLIM platforms, they offer a new standard in imaging system performance validation.

Key features & benefits
-
High Resolution design: USAF patterns from Groups 0 to 8 or 2 to 8, suitable for high-end imaging platforms.
-
Characterized fluorescence lifetimes: Four proprietary dyes (BPXS1LT–5LT) with traceable, stable lifetime values.
-
Compatible with major FLIM modalities: Supports confocal, wide-field, and TCSPC-based point-scan systems.
-
Multi-region lifetime mapping: Targets include spatially distinct regions with different lifetime characteristics.
-
Positive or Negative contrast Patterns: Adaptable to various optical configurations.
-
Long-term stability: Lifetime values verified to remain stable over one year, ideal for longitudinal studies.
-
Simple integration: Ready-to-use with standard microscope stages and sample holders.
Why Choose High Resolution Fluorescence Lifetime test targets
Unlike standard fluorescence test targets, our FLIM-specific models are the first-ever commercially available standards designed to calibrate and validate lifetime-based imaging systems. Developed in response to the reproducibility challenges in FLIM, these targets provide:
-
True standardization across instruments and laboratories
-
Validated lifetime benchmarks using high-resolution time-correlated photon counting (TCSPC)
-
Multiple lifetimes in a single target, reducing calibration time and increasing reliability
-
Elimination of ad hoc lifetime calibration methods with liquid dyes or custom setups
This is more than just a resolution target — it’s a fully traceable, reproducible, and scalable solution for FLIM validation.
Applications
- Biomedical imaging (e.g., metabolic imaging, cancer detection)
- Preclinical research and drug development
- Surgical guidance
- Instrument calibration and quality control in both commercial and academic settings
- Development and benchmarking of FLIM algorithms and software
- Training and education in FLIM techniques
